I am a metal worker. This is all I have known, my work has been my companion ever since my father got me this job. My father was also a metal worker and he died of Lung Cancer. This is this risk involved when you’re working with fumes every day. Our job is to cut, weld, and melt the metal, in order to do that we have to inhale a lot of toxic smoke. Many people have given their lives to the metal and my father was one of them. Apart from this risk I love my job, I have spent my whole life in this bazaar. It is a big family of workers here, we all have known each other since childhood. We try to make each day as bearable as we can, we crack jokes and try to make each other laugh. I accept my life as a common worker, I have found meaning in it. There is this beauty in physical labor, you are so physically and mentally immersed in the work that everything else becomes secondary. I am not chasing fame and fortune and it is this work that has kept me from all these vices. Even though I don’t earn much, I am Grateful for I sleep peacefully every night.
